Palm Beach Health Network (PBHN) has donated $300,000 to fund nursing scholarships, demonstrating its commitment to strengthening the healthcare workforce. This funding, part of Florida’s LINE grant program, awarded $10,000 scholarships to 30 nursing students at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Florida Atlantic University, and Indian River State College this year.
Palm Beach Health Network Boosts Nursing Education
The Palm Beach Health Network is set to continue its support in 2025, offering additional scholarships to students at Palm Beach State College, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Indian River State College. These efforts align with PBHN’s mission to address the growing demand for skilled nursing professionals across South Florida and the Treasure Coast.
“Nurses are the foundation of the exceptional care we provide at PBHN hospitals, which feature innovative and complex programs,” said Ricky Ramirez, PBHN’s Group Chief Nursing Officer. “The LINE program has reduced financial obstacles for aspiring nurses, allowing them to concentrate on their education and preparing them to deliver outstanding patient care.”
Created in 2022, the LINE program partners healthcare providers with nursing schools, offering dollar-for-dollar matching funds to expand nursing education opportunities. Complementing this is the PIPELINE fund, which rewards excellence in licensed practical nurse programs and further supports the nursing workforce pipeline.
Preparing Nurses for the Future
Beyond scholarships, Palm Beach Health Network operates a comprehensive nurse extern program, equipping nursing students with hands-on training to become registered nurses (RNs). Since its launch in 2022, the program has supported 328 externs who have transitioned to RN roles.
Currently, 20 recent graduates are taking or have passed their RN licensing exams, while another 100 are preparing for their exams in early 2025. PBHN plans to train 230 nurse externs in 2025, offering them personalized mentoring, practical experience, and one-on-one guidance from seasoned RNs.
Through these initiatives, Palm Beach Health Network reinforces its dedication to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals, ensuring a stronger, more prepared nursing workforce for Florida.
