A new chapter has commenced for Sebastian River Medical Center, now officially operating under Orlando Health. The former branding has already been taken down, marking a fresh beginning for the hospital and its community. This significant change follows Steward Hospitals’ bankruptcy filing about five months ago, raising concerns about the availability of healthcare services in the region.

A Transformative Change for the Community

“This marks a brand new day; it's a transformative moment for our entire community,” stated board member Dr. Patrick Domkowski. With Orlando Health's leadership, there is optimism that the organization will effectively respond to the healthcare needs of the Treasure Coast while enhancing the overall patient experience.

Ohme Entin, Senior Vice President of Orlando Health, has assured employees that there are no plans for layoffs. “All staff members from Steward Health Care have successfully joined the Orlando Health team,” she confirmed. This continuity is crucial for maintaining morale among staff and ensuring that patients receive consistent care at Sebastian River Medical Center.

Healthcare professionals, including nurses and doctors, are invited to become part of the Orlando Health network, with Domkowski predicting an increase in applications from those on the Space Coast. “I expect a significant rise in applications for our hospital and medical staff,” he remarked, reflecting the positive outlook surrounding this change.

Local leaders, such as Indian River County Administrator John Titkanich, share this enthusiasm. “The bankruptcy of Steward created uncertainty about continuity of care for those who depended on this facility,” Titkanich explained. “We are excited to see a strong foundation being laid under Orlando Health.”

In the coming months, residents can anticipate meaningful changes at Sebastian River Medical Center. Entin highlighted the importance of community input, stating, “We want to listen first and ensure we get it right.” This focus on understanding local needs positions the facility for a successful partnership.

As Orlando Health and Sebastian River Medical Center begin this new phase, their commitment will revolve around the three C’s: care, character, and color, promising a vibrant future for healthcare in Indian River County.
