Central Florida Health is moving forward with plans to expand its services in Lakeland by constructing a new four-story, 34,000-square-foot clinic near Bryant Stadium. This development will significantly boost the capabilities of Central Florida Health, which currently cares for over 45,000 medical patients and 29,000 dental patients annually.
The nonprofit healthcare organization has requested approval from the City Commission for a zoning change to build the new clinic on an unpaved parking lot next to its existing two-story facility. The current 11,600-square-foot building will remain in use during construction but will be demolished once the new clinic is ready.
Central Florida Health Expansion To Enhance Services
Central Florida Health Care Inc., established in 1972, operates 15 locations across Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties, including a unique Community School Health Center at Crystal Lake Elementary in Lakeland. The upcoming clinic expansion will offer an even broader range of services to the Lakeland community. The new facility will include primary medical care, pediatric and adult dental services, behavioral health support, OB/GYN care, nutritional counseling, and optometry.
Moreover, the expanded clinic will feature on-site laboratories and a full-service pharmacy, complete with a drive-thru window for easy prescription pickups. These additions will greatly improve the convenience and accessibility of healthcare for patients.
Improving Access And Community Amenities
The new clinic will also include several community-focused enhancements, such as bicycle parking and a landscaped pedestrian plaza that connects the main entrance to North Florida Avenue. To further improve access, the Florida Department of Transportation plans to install a pedestrian signal across North Florida Avenue, making it safer for visitors accessing the clinic and nearby sports venues.
The existing structure, which Central Florida Health Care Inc. acquired in 2012, was originally built as an office and later used as a multipurpose educational center for New Jerusalem Church. This expansion reflects Central Florida Health's dedication to bringing together a wide range of health services under one roof, making it easier for patients to access the care they need.
“This project is a significant advancement in providing comprehensive healthcare services,” said CFHC attorney Tim Campbell. “We are thrilled to expand these services in Lakeland and appreciate the grant funding and support that have made this possible.”
