Jess Parrish Medical Foundation Announces Karla Foster, RN, Scholarship Recipients

TITUSVILLE — Jess Parrish Medical Foundation (JPMF) recently awarded $10,000 in Karla Foster, RN, Memorial Scholarships to five exceptional college students that distinguished themselves through their accomplishments and dedication to their community. Each of the awardees will receive $2,000 to assist with their educational endeavors in pursuit of advancing their healthcare careers. 

The scholarship, established by Doug Foster in loving memory of his wife, Karla, who was a nurse at Parrish Medical Center for more than 22 years, offers the opportunity to deserving nursing students to carry on the professionalism, commitment, dedication and loving care that she demonstrated all her life.

Scholarship recipients include from Florida State University, Kenzington Allender; Natalie Edwards-Giambanco, Daytona State College; Julia Simonson, University of Central Florida; Robert Sluka, University of Florida; and Sarah Sluka, University of Miami.  

Criteria for applicants included North Brevard County residency; acceptance into a nursing program; possessing a 3.0 or better grade point average; recommendation letters; and personal essay. Funds awarded will be available for tuition, books, supplies or other expenses related to completing the student’s nursing program.

            Selection committee members include Director, Medical/Surgical Helen Chambers, RN, BSN; Manager Communications & People Development Ericka Jacobs, RN, MSN; Executive Director, Surgical, Emergency and Critical Care Services Matthew Graybill, MSHA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, CNOR, and Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President Integrated and Acute Care Edwin Loftin, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE.

“All of our recipients are exceptional and we look to them to lead the next generation in shaping the future of healthcare, said Randall Coleman, Chairman, JPMF Board of directors. We are delighted to be able to award scholarships to such accomplished and deserving students."

JPMF is investing in the future by awarding medical scholarships to residents in North Brevard County who are pursuing careers that one day will provide healing to our community. Since 1990, JPMF has awarded more than $514,000 in scholarships to deserving students.
