Health News Florida published a good story this week of the challenges physicians and patients face with the implementation of Amendment 2. It is a recommended read for anyone interested in better understanding the numerous moving parts with implementation of the amendment.

It is important to note that the implementation process is similar for Amendment 2 as all other Constitutional Amendments passed by the voters. While the effective date may pass, the Legislature must convene to write the rules and regulations that will guide implementation. While the Legislative Session starts in March, State Leaders are already convening Committee Meetings. Our organizations are monitoring those discussions and will report back to the membership on their deliberations.

On this particular amendment there are some significant differences between existing law and the Amendment language that need to be resolved by the Legislature. Physicians are encouraged to make sure you review current restrictions and use a little patience as the process unfolds over the coming months.
